Spent the morning helping sort out a storage shed load of household items for an elderly person now in elder care. She has spent a lifetime acquiring beautiful things from her many travels, especially to Europe, and now it is time to deal with her stuff. She has very good taste and so her porcelain, artworks, Persian carpets and so forth are lovely. And all have a story, a memory attached. But Dunbar Sloane came and said, nah, nothing of any real value. Maybe a few hundred for the carpets, but that's it. Bloke was a decent sort who has been doing appraisal work for 45 years. He was quite apologetic about his assessment. She has no children only a few relatives in Hungary. So the Op Shop it is then for the vast bulk of a lifetime of living. And even then there's no guarantee they will take all of it. And this work, this emotional labour falls on a few friends to sort out. Not sure what the answer to any of this is except maybe enjoy life - and your possessions - while you can.
