And also positioned where the metal bits of my shoe clips into the pedal. The fit is by far the biggest improvement I had to avoid knee pain. I used to mash pedals but discovered I wasn't using gears correctly. The general rule of thumb is to aim for 90 rpm and land wherever feels comfortable. Some people land a little higher or lower. Higher rpm means less mash. It helped me.
