The thing about an ancient work like the Odyssey is that it only comes to us courtesy of an untold number of unknown scribes.
If we were to count up the "man hours" it took to compose, repeat, compile, enscribe, copy, & preserve this fucking thing for millennia... the number would be astronomical.
One reason this work deserves some goddamn respect is the sheer fucking effort that has been put into it not by one person but by an unknown number of people across a vast span of time.

@artemis@dice.camp Homer was used to teach reading and writing for nearly a thousand years. Every Greek literate person copied his work. Heck, they even found copied pages stuffed in a mummy as filler.
