WOW. FILE THIS UNDER: Things I learned today. A few days ago, I posted the outstanding Cherry Red CD box set Musik Music Musique 1979 (The Roots Of Synth Pop). On that collection is a song by Bruce Woolley And The Camera Club called “Video Killed The Radio Star”, the famous song by The Buggles, and the very first video played on MTV. I thought it was a cover. NOPE. Technically, it is the ORIGINAL version. It was written by Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes, AND Woolley. Woolley recorded and released it it first, to no acclaim. A few months later, The Buggles had a huge hit with THEIR version. The Bruce Woolley And The Camera Club version is FANTASTIC!!! I had never heard it before, and I cannot stop listening to it. The cute “ohhh wah ohhhs” are absent, and for me, it’s a refreshing, if not BETTER version of the Buggles classic.
