@tehfishman@ioc.exchange @smn@l3ib.org What about a system where it's not destruction of evidence, but withholding? What if an interface is implemented similar to the SIM card PIN/PUK dual codes, where a duress code locks you out of the first level, requiring the PUK code, which you don't have on your person, and don't know? The evidence is still there, it can be accessed, but it requires a code that is somewhere else.

Destroying a single bit, even if it's in volatile memory & going to be lost on power off anyway, will be interpreted as destruction of evidence. If you give them an inch they will take a mile. Even if you have a backup of that data or a key to it somewhere else.
