(the answer is because the ttys dont support unicode im pretty sure)

when wayland.fyi irc stuff is back i might pop in and ask their thoughts @fiore@brain.worm.pink what do you think cause like i dont think they'd want libxkbcommon either but that means coming up with something better which is HARD
