@littlealex@infosec.exchange @forty2@oldbytes.space Yeah it feels like such a loss. Cassette futurism is far and away my favorite aesthetic. It seemed inevitable back in the day, and one could argue the fidelity you get out of a modern high res audio player and even a basic 1080p modern TV is miles better than anything we had back then, and I’m glad for that. But man there is just something so special, that we lost when it comes to physical media and the devices we used to play them.

@kiteless@furries.club @forty2@oldbytes.space I see two sides. First, it is part of our culture. Just because there was something new we rarely threw away the old stuff, but we did with electronics. We ignored the aesthetics and that the tech shaped culture and society, not just the products itself, but the very process of design, production and use. Interestingly we did it with other technology, like cars. Development, production and use are well documented and it is a valued hobby to own and maintain a vintage car. Society even supports it by granding special privileges and cheaper insurance. 2nd, more than once old production methods and knowledge solved modern problems. It is arrogant to assume we now know it better. We maybe know more, but quantity and quality are two different things.
