Bought myself a high-spec M5 pro MacBook Pro (18 cores, 20 core GPU) with 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, to replace my 8GB/256GB M1 MacBook Air. Some observations: Things that shouldn’t be faster are way faster. Like downloading files from iCloud. By all logic, it should be limited by the speed of my internet. MBP for some reason, is order of magnitude faster. Is the MBA limited by Wifi? MBP is on Wifi 6, MBA on 5. This is on 1 gig fiber connection. 1/2

2/2 Tested both computers using Handbrake. MBP was about 4 times faster. MBA started throttling towards the end, MBP was steady all the way through. MBP using the Low Power setting was about 60% faster than the MBA. This should be enough computer for me for years to come. The MBA lasted me 5.5 years, limiting factor turned out to be the size of the SSD. Going from 256GB to 2Tb is… liberating.
