Sadly it's easy to make a case for this style of rulership, if only because there have been so many examples of it and thus U.S. conservatives waste a gigantic quantity of sentimental slobber on eulogizing kings and tyrants, and attempting to assert that only the continued existence of kings and tyrants can truly safeguard liberty and democracy, by some ineffable process which is merely a flimsy cover over the intrinsically totalitarian instincts of #Christian extremists. They do love their Christ the King. King King King, Kingdom this and Kingdom that, it's one of their favorite topics of conversation. (cont'd)

Christianity as it exists (except in the margins) is thudding and leaden in its insistence upon absolutist tyranny, rule with a rod of iron. The U.S. right wing have for centuries been picking out all the choicest bits and morsels of their favorite translations of the #Bible (usually the KJV in the past but they've branched out) that they regard as "literally true" (i.e. they're visibly words on paper) and proof that God wants the people's heads kicked in by cops and their wallets drained dry by God-fearing confidence tricksters.
