The real point of this massive ecosystem of right-wing think-tanks and "research institutes" is twofold, with a public and a private side. They generate huge volumes of pro-business, pro-authoritarian propaganda for the public to consume, and they privately work endless and with truly religious (Christofascist) fanaticism on figuring out new laws and new scams for squeezing profit and new ways to corrupt and undermine existing U.S. institutions which stand in the way of their dominion.
Undoubtedly the most important of these places is the Heritage Foundation, which has written a great many policies for Presidents to champion including the #Democrats' saint, Pres. Barack Obama.

Now THERE was a triumph of #marketing indeed! Pres. Obama was completely outmaneuvered. Faithful to the politically self-defeating "centrism" of mainstream #Democratic politics, Pres. Obama thought he'd achieved an ideal compromise by rebadging Mitt Romney's Heritage-Foundation scheme for legally compelling more U.S. denizens to sign up for corporate health #insurance. He forgot that all Republican policies only work in Republican hands. He laid an egg in full sight of the nation, playing right into Republican hands: they instantly turned face and mercilessly shredded their own plan, successfully fastening Obama's own surname onto it as a slur.
