thinking about how a lot of queer people i know became adults after U=U, and what that meant about the role of the specter of AIDS in their upbringing

like i wouldn't say it's a neat generational split, because there are a lot of factors at play here. AIDS never fully went away just because it became treatable, now it's only "over" in places where treatment is available. and of course your childhood conception of sex and queerness is gonna be influenced largely by how the adults around you talk about, which is not necessarily gonna line up with the actual science.
