If your ebook reader app can't even attempt to open a raw .txt file, in 2026, something has gone profoundly, fundamentally wrong in the development process. Plain text is literally the baseline of computing, how is this an edge case? Speaking from experience, it's moderately difficult to have a parser that handles almost all .txt files in all encodings well, but not even trying is just pethetic.
