There's no use arguing with such people. It might seem obvious to the reasonable person that the "sovereign citizen" legalese won't actually work, and that if $GME really did explode into millions-per-share numbers the U.S. government will not meekly print out enough money to redeem the cultists' holdings. The magical thinking prevents the true believers from entertaining such reasonable doubts. They must believe in the power of their spells. Thus it seems weirdly inevitable that the single letter X became a focal point for every crowd of money-obsessed cultist chasing after some memetic scam. They all have a fanatical faith in the power of basic symbols like numbers and letters. (cont'd)

It slots right into another irrational faith very common in the #tech sector: faith in short catchy user-names. Geeklords immediately pounce on all possible short words and abbreviations and it's sometimes possible to reap an absurd quantity of effort-free profit merely by grabbing a short user-name early and then waiting for someone else, someone desperate enough to pay lots of money to get that short name for themselves. Insofar as Elon Musk has a personality, it's this. He's a strangely durable relic of 1990s technology grifting, having conceived his obsession with X back when registering short dot-com names was still a license to print money. (cont'd)
