@magicalgrrrl@indiepocalypse.social this is so hard these days too, the internet doesnt make getting started easier, and the books are hard to find if you don't already know what to look for - i recommend learn (language) the hard way series - afaik its still free online and available in print too - i also recommend ritchie C but only if you're learning C, otherwise any basics book for the language you want to do - i wish i could help more, i love programming so much and i wish it were more accessible to people who want to pursue it

@magicalgrrrl@indiepocalypse.social fwiw this path has lead me to a lucrative career for which i have no formal education but have expertise people with formal educations seek. if you have a passion for it, i implore you not to let how shitty the front gate is make you give up.

@0x00string@infosec.exchange just looked a little into it, The Hard Way series site has "Learn Go the Hard Way" to read for free. Also has the description of "A course for total absolute know-nothing beginners who want to learn to code." for that one. Apparently Go is a fairly easy language to learn?
