@sylvia@social.lol my local choices are basically all shitty chains, which might be part of the problem — my local Everyone Active probably has to hack through multiple layers of bureaucracy and apathy to get funds for replacements/repairs so I'm guessing the same will be true of my other local options — Fitness First, PureGym ... so not much incentive to be better

@aliide@mstdn.social I bet that is a big part of the problem, because the big chains don't care about their rates, they always undercut because they have so many clients, they don't lose any money. So then smaller centres have the problem of competing with them, and they are not in a position to negotiate bulk rates for gym equipment etc.
