@cwebber@social.coop doing this would accelerate the chasing-after-technical-solutions-to-social problems that defines the current tech climate.* That one of the most popular technical "solutions" among the very wealthy/powerful is fascism is not something on your list of things to change, nor would (even somehow radically more democratic) AI help change that. Defeating the current wave of fascism is table stakes, quite possibly for the survival of the species (*both* in terms of avoiding nuclear winter *and* in terms of avoiding climate collapse). So no, I don't think this would be helpful.
Yet, I'm also someone captivated by the ideas of AI research.

@cwebber@social.coop to finish the thought I left behind: *actually most people with a lot of power are not interested in solutions to social problems at all, beyond "how can I maintain my power in the face of collapse", but they put on a show of searching for solutions because they need buy-in from a mass of people who really care about the social problems, and a chunk of those people remain conveniently under the illusion that technical advances will eventually solve the social problems because that way they can more easily uncountenance the fact that technical "advances" have often made the social problems worse.
