Much about hardline Christianity resembles a cult of St. Paul far more than any sort of cult of Jesus. It's not that Jesus isn't important to them but he's trivial to them, a solved problem, reduced to a magazine cover or a plastic Buddy Jesus doll. They put far more energy into mining Saul of Tarsus's questionable literary output for weapons. St. Paul himself was like that. He was like them, like Billy Graham and Pete Hegseth and Clive Staples Lewis: a careerist "Christian", a fellow who seemed to regard the Incarnation chiefly as good managerial advice and an excuse to boss people around. #CSLewis must have fallen for that style of Christianity, or pseudo-Christianity. I use that "pseudo" delicately because I don't want the fallacious nature of extremist Christians to be construed, as most milder Christians have taken it, as an excuse to say "oh they're not REAL Christians" and wash their hands of dealing with them. They SAY they have the true faith and therefore everyone else who affirms a Christian faith has (in my opinion) a moral obligation to deal sternly with right-wing Christians. I think the most damning evidence against #CSLewis must surely be found in the first book he rushed to print after his conversion and...is it known if Jack Lewis might have already been feeling out the publication angle? See what I mean, it's hard to believe that Lewis wouldn't be that crass. He just seems to have been like that, a Soapy Sam Ballard type. (cont'd)
