Madison police immediately took to the media to defend their actions.
They describe cops being dispatched to what most cop shops call a "car prowler". No actual reported property crime, just literally a karen called saying he was LOOKING at cars.
The cops checked it out, found him, he fled on a bike, cops chased. Its not like he'd done any crime to that point.
Even the police cheif admits the chasing cops likely rammed the man fleeing on his bike leading him to crash.

Cops then state that AFTER a karen profiled the man, and a crack team of armed cops pursed him for the CRIME of looking at cars in a suspicious way... the man was forced into a bike crash while fleeing. The cops immediately were seen fighting the man RIGHT after his crash and during that point they allege the man possessed a knife. Now I don't know about you... but MANY cops call it a done deal simply by forcing a car prowler to FLEE empty handed. #ACAB
