It didn't do a bad thing "on its own."
That's like me parking my car on a hill and not setting the parking brake, and when the car rolls down the hill and kills someone, we say "The car rolled down the hill on its own."
Yeah, because the human who was responsible let it happen. This is not an AI problem, this is a human recklessness problem, and every story about it should be framed that way.
