For 3 months I ran an experiment: Hello Fediverse, meet Tom. Tom dislikes hate speech, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism. They openly oppose discrimination, segregation, inequality, hate crimes, and war crimes. Tom does not debate or argue with anyone on social media, choosing to avoid conflict altogether. At most, Tom may occasionally post a link to a well-documented scientific journal or an established long-term study — sticking solely to facts without sharing personal opinions. Additionally, they share no personal views on politics or religion. All of their content is original, and they post nothing generated by AI. In fact, they have never posted a single photo or video. Yet, the "Tom" account has been suspended by several administrators. Why? Because on the Fediverse, you can be the ideal citizen, posting nothing controversial or offensive, and a random admin can still decide that all 10,000+ of their users shouldn't know you exist. This is the central problem with the Fediverse. Because most people are not nearly as "perfect" or as "dull" as Tom. The experiment is still ongoing. #Tom #Fediverse #Mastodon #Missykey #ActivityPub

@NetscapeNavigator@social.vivaldi.net Obviously, I (or anyone else) cannot verify whether your allegations against these administrators are justified or not, without seeing the postings of Tom. And since your “Tom” experiment is still ongoing, you would not reveal Tom's identity. For the moment we must therefore declare stalemate.

  • Obviously, this account is not the "Tom" account. I think I am going to run my little experiment for a few more months. I am curious to see how "bad" things get and when I am done with the experiment I will also publish which Fedi sites picked on poor "Tom".
