@bryan@dusty.ninja the thing is, I always hated Photoshop and used to like GIMP OK. I didn't like Photoshop because of the cost (though I did buy Adobe Creative Suite way back for compatibility with designers and clients) but also because I had to reboot into Windows to use it and that sucked. But, it really feels like everything in GIMP has changed, and for the worse. Like, it's just really complicated and confusing now in ways I don't remember it being...at least 20 years ago, when I used to spend a lot of time poking around in bitmap graphics. All my web graphic work moved to Inkscape at least that long ago, so it's entirely possible I've just forgotten everything about the GIMP, but it feels intentionally obtuse and mysterious. Now I think I know how my dad felt when Autodesk stopped shipping AutoCAD for DOS. Nothing's where I want it to be and nothing acts like I expect.
