Cats can have a little slommy.

  • A little, little bit. As a very occasional treat. Remember that the salt and spices in salami are dosed for humans that are, on average, 15 times larger than a house cat, and things like garlic and onion aren’t toxic to us but they are to them. Unsalted, boiled chicken breast is a better every-day treat for kitty.

I don’t understand the haters. One or two bites isn’t going to hurt them. One of my cats loves cheese. But it has to be sharp, stinky cheese. I know it’s not good for him, but a tiny little piece every few weeks isn’t going to hurt.

My old neighbor was a vet tech. One thing I learned from her is to keep in mind relative size in treats. For a normal size cat, a single slice of salami is analogous to a pound of salami for a normal sized person. Giving kitties treats is fun, but they aren’t that bright and will absolutely eat more than they can handle if given the chance. Even if it doesn’t kill them, it can cause them pain, and it’s on us to do what we can to keep them from hurting themselves.
