They used a couple pictures of mine, which mostly paid for the gas I used to drive out there. I camped overnight in order to photograph a really picturesque and unusually large juniper at dawn, when the light was good at that location. The damaged section of border wall in the story is right nearby. Here's the juniper I went to photograph. Before and after.
