RE: https://seattle.pink/@mxchara/116961601090287076 I'll just say it outright because it's eating at me. It's been eating at me for years—back to childhood when I didn't understand anything about anything. In My Dinner with Andre, André Gregory says something about Le Petit Prince that is astonishing to me and I think must have astonished Wally Shawn, who does a better job of facing off against Gregory's torrent of chaotic recollections and wild predictions about the future than I think I would have done at his age in the movie (mid-30s I think it was.) Today I'd feel more confident but back then? 😬 (cont'd)

I've talked about this matter before but I'm returning to it...it's a deep rabbit hole indeed, this one. Especially because I swear that I've managed to disturb the memetic tides just a bit because I'm seeing My Dinner with André memes now and I'd been trying to watch the movie many times over the years. We'd often find that we'd dissociate partway through because the content is so...bewildering. But it's bewildering in a very familiar way. André Gregory's style of conversation resembles that of a lot of the "dark intellectual" types I've run into on Twitter, people who have just enough schooling and knowledge to make really nasty racists. Most of them need to be very careful about maintaining their particular shade of semi-visibility. (cont'd)
