@Siiin@pagan.plus 1) people hate thinking. they love being told what to do because that absolves them (in their minds) of responsibility for their actions. 2) if we all started accepting lived knowledge as expertise then the sham of higher education, which is landlordism with a thin veneer of education, would be shown for what it is and all that money spent on degrees would've been better spent on anything else. the supreme case of buyers remorse. people will kill to avoid confronting this

    @coolcalmcollected@mastodon.social Yeah, it's kind of a paradox, though, right? They want to be told what to do by an *authority* but because that makes them feel a lack of agency they try to preserve that agency by upholding this idea that there is some singular sanctified authority at all. And none of this is a disagreement, I genuinely agree vehemently with literally everything you've said I just think it's a wild conceptual place to be
