The assumption that some external service (VPN or whatever) couldn't possibly honor its core commitments to you, little nobody customer, is kind of odious. There are no special technologies that will let us eradicate trust relationships from our online interactions. The need for "no trust" leads to madness. The fact that we are talking about Mullvad, and many of us cancelling with a consequential impact is evidence that something about VPN use is working better than trusting giant ISPs.
