They aren’t cheap but it’s prettty hard to justify insurance for e-scooters if you’re not also doing it for normal road bikes. Registration makes some sort of sense to limit unsafe/overpowered/non-legally-compliant kit but again, what’s the point if the gardai can’t easily/remotely check that registration. Effective safety training for all road users would be a much better idea all round.
