Wow. Final judgement in the Anthropic class action is approved.
Anthropic will pay $1.5 billion to authors whose works it pirated. The lawyers get $101.56 million (6.8%); a third of what they initially requested.
There is a 30-day notice-of-appeal period.

@mpe@hcommons.social The interesting bit they fine is actually for the storage of books they acquired illicitly, not actually the use of books for training, that part was confirmed as fair-use.
