@kopper@not-brain.d.on-t.work lmao god i remember falling into this rabbit hole a bit when the "better software conference" posted a bunch of interesting technical videos by people associated with casey, only for the strangely self-congratulatory, insular context and baffling absence of *any women at all* in the conference lineup to become increasingly offputting.
some people (ok, mainly thinking about casey) seem to get a real bee in their bonnet about some hyperspecific engineering tradeoff like arena allocators vs RAII, and turn it into this baffling 'we are saving programming' thing where they'll rhetorically imply that anyone who doesn't do things their precise way is a less advanced programmer who still has some growing up to do. and of course they broadcast that so a bunch of other people can pick up their personal bugbear on faith. it's really unfortunate that this slightly cultish, macho shit seems to be one of the major on-ramps to caring about engineering craft at the moment!

@canmom@icosahedron.website i think it was one of the handmade conferences but i still remember the time zig's andrew kelley tried to talk about the politics of it all and got called a communist in a blog post by gingerbill
