@Viss@mastodon.social @frobozz@tty0.social Many monitors let you reflash EDID – I did this on HDMIPI display, because it reported preferred resolution as 1080p despite being 1280x800, and some drivers would always set the resolution to 1080p despite being set to 1280x800 (so the driver would upscale to 1080p, then the monitor would downscale back to 1280x800, which looked great).
I don't remember what tool I used to reflash the EDID, but it did not need any special hardware – worked over HDMI. There are also several free EDID editors available online – you can use them to grab the EDID of your monitor, then edit it to your liking.
Oh, and I'm fairly sure that PiKVM lets you just set any EDID file you want.
