The fact that a lot of surveillance and DRM-like anti-features are justified with "employers need that for security on their company-issued devices" should tell you that the ideological core of capitalism is control, not freedom.

As a worker-owner, your income scales with the output of the firm. You are naturally incentivized to be productive and efficient. As an employee, your income is fixed, any surplus accrues to the capitalist owner. You are incentivized to be *just* productive enough not to get fired. So capitalism decouples production from market signals. And must replace them with surveillance and power. That's the opposite of the commonly told story. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
