I haven't fact checked the specific numbers mentioned, but it doesn't matter for this quote post. What does matter is that even if the numbers are grossly inflated, solar canopies on car parks are a win-win. Electricity generation can easily offset the cost of tarmac and conctete that would otherwise just be sitting there doing nothing. With a big enough setup, you could even do EV or ebike charging. (No idea why I haven't seen ebike charging stations because that would scale *way* better than EV charging given the dramatically lower energy demand per unit.) At the same time, canopies mean less of the heat island effect from bare road and sidewalk, meaning a lot less potential for heat related deaths that are coming whether or not you believe global warming was accelerated by industrial activity.
