After 154 years Taka-yama (鷹山) rejoined the festival as the 34th float.
Damaged in a flood in 1826, the original float was then destroyed by fire in 1864.
But why has it taken so long to restore?
Well, it costs around 200 million yen to rebuild and decorate a lost float!😨

🛞PULLING GIANTS😅 A few days before the 'Saki Matsuri' (先祭り - July 17th), and again before the 'Ato Matsuri' (後祭 - July 24th), the floats with wheels are pulled a short distance to make sure everything is working well and that they are ready to parade. #GionMatsuri #祇園祭
