Basically it's a bit more convenient. But the digital converter used might sound better than what's in any given laptop.
I set mine to show up as AirPlay devices, since I'm typically using Apple music lossless on iPhone for music. I have one on each system in the house. As long as I'm on the home network I can send the music to any/all.
But it can also be set to use bluetooth, or Spotify. Or it can play audio files from a media server.
It has a bunch of internet radio stations preset, for use as a standalone device. But you can add pretty much any radio station audio stream.

@markc568@beige.party @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @catch56@kolektiva.social yep dedicated device to do the music, controllable from any web browser, with better outputs similar to using a better soundblaster card back in the day. They even make optical and XLR output, depending on your needs.
