Idea: Music service that maintains a library of interferometric scans of records, dubplates and masters and allows listeners to play these scans using virtual turntables. The playback could even be physically modeled, allowing for actual cartridges to be characterized and "virtualized" (like guitar amp modelling) Want to hear a 90s 7" pressing of Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam" through an Ortofon 2M Blue? Load up a scan and your Ortofon plugin library and off you go!

Alternatively, a FOSS standard for interferometric scans of phonograph records and an OSHW record scanner. You could even press and release a modelling record that can be played into accompanying software to model a turntable and cartridge (I imagine it's frequency sweeps, amplitude sweeps, and pops for impulse response) and share the model as an open file type.
