Replacement arrived, old one removed, new one powered on! Instantly showed a full charge and is happy. Our house is almost 80 years old and the power flashes when the neighbor's dog farts too hard. Now the internet will stay connected even when the power hiccups. The modem, while not almost 80, does not owe anybody anything and takes like 15 minutes to restart itself. Now we can worry about that less.
Also the DVR and TV will run for a few hours.
The important things.

@nixanadoo@mastodon.social there are people who have developed systems for cooling houses by dumping excess energy into the Earth, and I would very much like to see the concept of "house" given a thorough reëxamination in light of this interesting fact
