I have such mixed feelings looking at us going through the collapse of western civilisation. On one hand it has the possibility to do a lot of good, to reduce much of the inequity that western civilisation maintains.
But on the other hand, the transition can be rough, and I want people to be okay. Collapse rarely happens all at once, and so I desperately hope for a transition that's as smooth as it can be, but I know there will be shocks along the way.
The biggest thing I worry about is foreign trade and food security. Complex systems are the first to collapse, and while international trade is not the most complex, it has lots of moving parts and complex inputs.
I don't have any good solutions here expect to build communities, keep a supply of emergency fresh water, and (if you can) some shelf-stable calories like dried rice and beans. If you have space for a garden, that's great, but not everyone does.
I just want everyone to turn out okay.
