@Edent@mastodon.social I had a different experience in Paris. I think I went for a weeklong ticket even though I wasn't going to be there for the full duration. It might have been more expensive than other options but worth it for convenience. You do have to bring passport-style photos to the ticket booth, but once you get the card and it's charged up you can take bus/metro/funicular (Montmartre) regardless of zone? This was only a couple of years ago at most. Definitely no need for apps then. The most difficult part was navigating inside the main train stations to find the correct platform when it was time to leave. London is a mixed bag because of zones, but it's still reasonably priced if you get day tickets for the tube. It's the first tube/metro system I encountered, though, so I'm probably slightly biased in favour of it. The Oyster Card system is pretty good, too.
