I got into this industry because I thought that I would work on Cool Shit and Make the World a Better Place but I've come to learn that the things I used to think were cool are actually evil under the hood and actively making the world a worse place is way more profitable than doing the right thing. And here I am making some of the most boring software I could have ever imagined to exist, not necessarily making the world worse but I struggle to see how it makes it much better

I'd like to find new employment but looking out at the listings right now its so hard to find a good needle in the 'AI Native' haystack. Everyone is drinking the koolaid in some way, so I have to just grit my teeth and carry on because at least I have not been forced to use the chatbot to do my work yet. Is it too much to ask for a company with good engineering practices and resistance to fads? Am I just in La La Land and need to come to grips that all these jobs suck and I just need to be content with my lot?
