What bothers me most these days are changes that miss the point, without showing that they're deliberately exploring a new take. To pick an example from my avatar, I have a lot less trouble with Discovery season one digging into darker-and-edgier and ends-justify-the-means starfleet because 1: it's different characters and 2: by the time you get to the end of the season, you realize it's been an extended meditation on whether that kind of story fits Starfleet to begin with.... ...than Picard season 3 just being darker and edgier trek with the TNG cast
