@paul@notnull.space @sotolf@polymaths.social @oxy@social.bsdlab.au Damn near every boss I have ever had. The owner of $weDropPackets recently asked me if my current jorb was hiring senior techs. Because he had promoted a gifted engineer to a leadership role, and he sucked at it. He was hoping we could attract him away. Hell, the owner of $weDropPackets himself. Very gifted sysadmin, network engineer. WORST BOSS I have ever had. In the early days, it was just me and him. I handled phone support, managed the servers and network, and some low level office tasks. He was the field installer, accountant, inventory manager, and everything else. We did design together, and it was fucking awesome. But then, we got bigger. He stopped working for the company, and started working _on_ the company. This is not wrong, except he sucked at it. I lost the misc office tasks, and support. Good riddance. I took over design almost completely. I was completely technical and it was awesome..... for a little while. Problem is, my boss _sucked_ at being a boss, and the more people we hired, the worse he got at it. To this day, I wish I would have quit a year sooner. Then I would (mostly) only have good memories. That last year, I did some of my best work, and had all loyalty for the company beaten out of me. I was so done, I blasted, "We Gotta Get Outta This Place!" by The Animals when I peeled out of the parking lot on my last day. Fleeing my own going away party. In twelve years and two days, I was the most senior employee by six years, and had NEVER seen anyone get a going away party. I got one, I fucking hated it. My last day was a Thursday. I held them to a HARD 30 days. ... Sorry, didn't mean to preech.
