why do i want to actually emulate the drive spindle so accurately, anyway? wouldn't it be fine to have some linear ramp up to full speed and call it a day?
Well, because there's at least one copy protection method, COPS COPYLOCK, that modulates the spindle motor speed during write operations to create copy-protected disks.
Yeah.
