We can also model the time taken to seek the read head from track to track.
The main immediate payoff for doing all of this is that i'll finally be able to plug in the floppy drive sounds i recorded.

i have no idea what kind of acceleration curve to use for a floppy spindle motor, and I don't have a tachometer handy. but we basically have a built-in tachometer, the index sensor. I can stick a logic analyzer on the /INDEX signal on the floppy cable and turn the motor on, and we should be able to work out the acceleration profile from the relative positions of each index pulse until they stop getting closer together.
