another wrinkle occurs with sound. I need to trigger a recorded 'step' sound when the drive steps. but the sound of stepping once is different from the sound of stepping over multiple tracks. And in fact, stepping inwards sounds different than stepping outwards. So I'll probably need to handle all the sound triggers in the FDC, instead of the drive. There may be a way to actually simulate the step sounds instead of playing samples, but a) i hate sound b) i don't think i'm smart enough
