What's also important is to have a bit of a wobble. Maybe not on PC, but a funny thing happens on a Macintosh, if you have a perfectly constant RPM like an emulator might produce, the Macintosh floppy drive routines will actually divide by zero, because they're trying to adjust for error that does not exist. They never assumed there would be 0 error.

    Okay, so the index sensor makes a shitty tachometer. The drive just spins up too fast. The second index pulse is always 200ms from the first. I should have anticipated that.
