Re: the "cats are nice" Discworld quote. One of my favourite ongoing themes from the books is Death's affectionate relationship with cats.
I think it's deeply representative of Pratchett's talent. Apart from his trademark caustic humour, he managed to make the embodiment of the Grim Reaper a complex, sympathetic, even arguably kind character. Death is someone who genuinely cares about people, carries a fierce sense of justice, experiences loneliness, and ultimately forms a deeply caring bond with cats.
This has always been one of my favourite officially licensed Discworld illustrations by Boris Sokolovsky, which I think depicts that angle of Death perfectly.

@fringemagnet@sunny.garden That is a wonderful image! And I love Death! As odd as that sounds. Pratchett being able to make Death into a complex character who we care about is pretty amazing. Also, naming his horse Binky is just the chef's kiss.
