re: - https://social.jvns.ca/@b0rk/116947351241392060 - https://mastodon.publicinterest.town/@b_cavello/116947371965048907 i really resonate with this! i've been stewing on this a bit. i've learned a lot (especially on mastodon) about the DIY spirit and tech sovereignty and owning your data and digital presence. i've appreciated learning about all of it, but i want my friends and family and most importantly anyone who isn't living and breathing this kind of technology to feel safe on the web, and be able to do all the fun and interesting things without basically having to become a sysadmin, or even necessarily a programmer. better defaults, better regulations and protections, more effort to understand what technology and the web are like for a new user, average user, wide range of users. i want to be conscious not to set my own defaults (browsers, ad blockers, password managers, just tech/design familiarity or literacy) and become complacent about making sure we continue to make things better for everyone else.
