Question for my fellow autistics of the fediverse. Do you see EVERYTHING when you walk into a room for the first time? The painting, and the crack in the wall next to it. The plaid chair in the corner, and the dog hair behind the left front leg. The vase and the faces. (in the figure-ground, or Rubin, vase picture) I'm reading Leidy Klotz's new book, In A Good Place and he's saying things like, "we all miss most of the details when we enter a space. We see one thing then everything else dissolves into the background." and I just want to scream at the page. Or this one: "Our bodies keep responding to sensory inputs even when our minds have gotten in the habit of ignoring them." Is it just me, or do our (autistic) minds NEVER get in the habit of ignoring sensory inputs?! @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistic #auDHD

@barefootrambling@autistics.life @autistics@fedigroups.social I see „everything“ if I have enough time for looking around. But not at first sight. What I recognised is that I see the „unimportant“ (seeming) things first 🥴 Regarding sensory input: I think that differs from autistic person to autistic person. I react mostly on acoustic input and cannot ignore any of it (was better when I was younger, I am 58 now). Others might have the same experience with optical or other kind of sensory input. #ActuallyAutistic
