look, i know for a fact that when i recommend something from bandcamp on here, people end up buying it. and i think that's incredible. back when i used to write music reviews for zines, i never knew whether or not my recommendations meant anything to anyone, (unless it made the reviewed band mad enough to argue with you about it, which happened a few times). now i can see that people i know here bought it after i recommended it. so now i see that recommending stuff to people works.

@c_reider@sonomu.club hell yes! A friend once told me he liked it when I shared stuff but he felt like he couldn't say anything articulate about why he liked stuff. I urged him to not worry about that and just do the sharing bit, I think lots of folks don't care about the description / reaction...

and this is why it's mind-boggling to me that there are people out there who have an appetite for music, but never share their finds with anyone. if everyone was constantly recommending things, that would actually make the music-making economy a hell of a lot better than it is. this is something i have kind of railed about for years. i admonish people to talk more about the stuff you love. and then link it. sharing music is morally upstanding business.

@c_reider@sonomu.club In my case, I don’t know if it actually works, but this week a couple of people bought the Mentocome album and I’d like to believe maybe word of mouth spread? https://mastodon.xyz/@soundclamp/116704975437305915
