the only way I've ever seen sip deployed is through a proxy or vpn
and if you do expose it you will get Hammered with spam requests. like hundreds per minute. it's bad

@Chloe@catwithaclari.net I think asterisk is relatively secure so if you use long enough authentication strings it's probably fine but honestly the extra traffic was enough to make me just firewall the sip ports to my LAN and vpn tunnel
